GYPS Brownies in Sydney Jamboree

30 Sep – 6 Oct 2018

Four Brownies from Guangyang Primary School had proudly represented the Singapore Girl Guides Contingent for the annual Sydney Jamboree 2018 (30th September to 6 October 2018), in Sydney, Australia. They were Annie Sihono Wongso (P5A), Anna Sihono Wongso (P5B), Kesang Lama Sherpa (P5C) and Thashwini Ravindran (P4C).

The jamboree is organized by the Australian Girl Guides for guiding members. The camp was held at Newington Armory in the former Sydney Olympic Park. The one week camp was filled with fun, adventure and the pupils forged new friendships amongst the local and international participants. Activities ranged from time-honored traditions to the innovative hi-tech. Our Singaporean Brownies had a first-hand experience of setting up their own bell tents using only canvas, gyre ropes, metal pellets and mallets. Besides exploring downtown Sydney and its places of attractions, the girls played different kinds of games and completed tasks during scavenger hunts onsite camp. They also had the opportunity to role-play as Australian convicts who went through hardship when settling down in colonies of the past. The participants displayed diligence, courage and teamwork during the camp. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience for all of them!
